I cut my teeth
with German Shorthaired Pointers in horseback field trialing. While I
enjoyed this format immensely and had a good measure of success with it, I
came to realize these dogs were not what I was looking to produce.
When I was
introduced to the National Shoot to Retrieve Association (NSTRA) field trial
format I knew I could have my cake and eat it to. This trial's format
which emphasizes above all else dogs with an excellent sense of smell and
bidability allowed me to produce the type of dog that would translate as
excellent hunters and still offer me a measuring tool by which I could best
evaluate where I was going with my breedings.
Over the last
few years we have produced four NSTRA champions of our own and have had five
others purchased as pups by clients also champion in this format.
Countless others have championship points. Considering the fact that
some 90% of the pups we sell are used exclusively for hunting, we are proud of
our record to date.
When I breed a
litter of pups, I do it to produce adult dogs which, in order of importance,
have excellent noses, are highly biddable, strong work ethic, well styled, and
have the best possible conformation. As NSTRA is strictly a walking
stake, needless to say 'horizon busters' are not what I am looking to produce.
If you are looking for a family oriented (we have four Shorthairs as house
dogs), biddable dog which will hunt for you and is well put together, give us a
call.
