PUPPIES
|
 |
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
At Upland Kennel we live by the code, produce
puppies only to improve the breed.
Because I believe
that with all my heart, two facts come to light. First, we rarely do
repeat breedings as we are trying to improve the breed, not simply sell pups and
second, since I'm primarily a trainer, I don't produce a lot of litters. On
average, we have two litters every year and perhaps another couple out of our
stock I recommend.

BREEDING
OBJECTIVES
I cut my teeth
with German Shorthaired Pointers in horseback field trialing. While I
enjoyed this format immensely and had a good measure of success with it, I
came to realize these dogs were not what I was looking to produce.
When I was
introduced to the National Shoot to Retrieve Association (NSTRA) field trial
format I knew I could have my cake and eat it to. This trial's format
which emphasizes above all else dogs with an excellent sense of smell and
bidability allowed me to produce the type of dog that would translate as
excellent hunters and still offer me a measuring tool by which I could best
evaluate where I was going with my breedings.
Over the last
few years we have produced four NSTRA champions of our own and have had five
others purchased as pups by clients also champion in this format.
Countless others have championship points. Considering the fact that
some 90% of the pups we sell are used exclusively for hunting, we are proud of
our record to date.
When I breed a
litter of pups, I do it to produce adult dogs which, in order of importance,
have excellent noses, are highly biddable, strong work ethic, well styled, and
have the best possible conformation. As NSTRA is strictly a walking
stake, needless to say 'horizon busters' are not what I am looking to produce.
If you are looking for a family oriented (we have four Shorthairs as house
dogs), biddable dog which will hunt for you and is well put together, give us a
call.

STARTED AND
TRAINED DOGS

Diesel
XVI
SOLD |

Diesel's story - this dog
was brought to me for training in the summer of 2008. At that time he
was one year old and on his second owner. His current owner had never
owned a pointing breed dog before so I was hired to get the dog in line,
which I did. In September 2009 the owner called me and explained that
due to health reasons he had to let the dog go and asked if I wanted him.
I loved this dog when I was training him, he has an excellent attitude, he
loves people, has excellent bidability, and I knew he would make a good
hunter and family dog. I took the dog and am now listing him for sale.
But there is more to the story.
When I took Diesel out recently and
hunted him I found that while his yard training was intact for the most
part, it became quickly obvious the owner had never used the dog when he was
returned after training. On contact with wild birds, Diesel went
ballistic with enthusiasm. He broke point and chased. This
happened repeatedly. I knew he had been staunch because I trained him
and was very happy with his final status when I sent him back to his owner.
Sitting in his kennel unused for over a year had weakened the training
considerably. I
have a friend who was interested in the dog so I sent him to this friend for
a month to see if he wanted him. My friend thought the dog's constant
breaking on point was more than he could deal with so he returned him to me.
This friend did let Diesel live in his house and found him to be a great
companion dog with good house manners. My friend also housebroke the
dog. Now I am
retraining the dog to be staunch on point. I will sell Diesel at any
time. However, I want his next owner to be his LAST. Diesel is
too nice a dog to be bounced around anymore. At this point in time
(26NOV09) Diesel is bargain priced at $700.00. However, as his
training continues, and he is brought back to the stage he was at when I
first trained him, that price will go up. If you are interested in
this dog, he can be purchased now, or he can be purchased now for future
delivery, when his training is complete. If you want to talk further
about Diesel, please feel free to call. |
